Separation Day is the annual celebration of Delaware’s independence from Pennsylvania and the British Crown. 2024 marks the 248th anniversary of arguably one of the longest-running traditions in the state. Spend the day in historic New Castle enjoying a parade at noon, family festival at 1 p.m., live music, games, kid’s rides, exhibitors, food & drink, a beer garden, a vintage market, and fireworks at 9:30 pm!

The Colonial-inspired parade, which progresses along Delaware Street, features re-enactors, bands, dance teams, classic cars, local sports teams, and non-profits. At Battery Park, the Family Festival kicks off at 1 p.m. with fun for the whole family: live music, games, kid’s rides, exhibitors, food & drink, beer garden featuring craft beer, wine & seltzers. While you're at Battery Park, shop for some unique artisan products and tasty treats at the Vintage Market. 


Conclude a day of fun at 9:30 p.m. with fireworks at Battery Park over the Delaware River. This is BYOB or C - Bring your own blanket and chair!

More Info

FREE Shuttle Bus Service is provided for the Separation Day fireworks. The buses will run on Saturday from 8pm until 30 minutes following the Fireworks show. There is no cost or ticket needed to take advantage of the shuttles and they are the recommended way to enter the city for the fireworks.

The shuttle will only stop at New Castle Middle located at 903 Delaware Street.

Carrie Downie Elementary.

The shuttle will stop at Carrie Downie Elementary school on Delaware Street.

All Drop-Offs for the festival & fireworks will take place at corner of 2nd & Delaware streets in Historic New Castle (near Historic Court House). Those looking to ride the bus back to their parking spot after fireworks conclude should meet bus at corner of 2nd & Delaware streets.
