Description
On the last weekend in August, one child rides FREE with each full-priced adult/senior ticket! Bring the kids for one last summer hurrah before the new school year kicks into high gear.
They will be collecting donations of school supplies which will be donated to a local elementary school. Suggested items include:
- No. 2 pencils, colored pencils, pencil boxes/cases, erasers
- Crayons, markers, dry erase markers/erasers
- Ear buds/earphones
- Wipes/tissues
- Scissors
- Backpacks
Once aboard the train you'll enjoy a leisurely 1½-hour round-trip ride up the Red Clay Valley to our Mt. Cuba Picnic Grove, where you can de-train to enjoy a ½-hour layover along the banks of the Red Clay Creek to have a picnic or simply admire the natural surroundings.
If you don't want to get off the train at Mt. Cuba, you can remain onboard and travel further up the line through the communities of Ashland and Yorklyn. On the return trip, we'll make a brief stop at Mt. Cuba to pick up the picnic passengers.
Boarding begins 15 minutes prior to the departure time.
This event is powered by one of their historic first-generation diesel locomotives.
