Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge protects one of the largest remaining expanses of tidal salt marsh in the mid-Atlantic region. The refuge, located along the coast of Delaware bay, is mostly marsh, but also includes freshwater impoundments and upland habitats that are managed for migratory birds and other wildlife. The visitor center is open daily year-round from 9 am to 4 pm, volunteer and weather dependent.

Bombay Hook is an environmental oasis right in New Castle County. It covers 16,251 acres - cordgrass meadows, mud flats, tidal pools, rivers, creeks, and tidal streams, forests, swamps, and more - and stretches 8 miles along the Delaware Bay.
