It’s no secret that there is a lot of bad news out there. We want to bring inspiration to your inbox each week with our new “Good News.”

Proud Crowned lemur parents-- Sophie and Kipp- welcomed a new bundle of joy into their home at the Brandywine Zoo this month. Did you know that our state’s only zoo is one of only 12 locations in North America where the public can view these endangered primates?



Wilmington Just Got Greener

In their ongoing mission to nourish minds and bodies, the Walnut Street YMCA and Delaware Urban Greens have introduced the first community fridge in Wilmington. Each week, fresh produce willl ble stocked in this free fridge. It is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Walnut Street YMCA.



Speaking of Green …

On Monday, the Delaware Greenways “cut the ribbon” on the Commons Blvd Trail, a spur off the Markell Trail. This pathway was phase one of the project, which will provide a connection from the existing Jack A. Markell Trail at the I-295 tunnel to the Churchmans Road Pathway. 



Extra Credit for The Delaware Schools





Last month, three Delaware schools and 350 other schools earned A+’s from the Department of Education, receiving recognition as National Blue Ribbon Schools. Congratulations go to: 

  • Olive B. Loss Elementary School in Bear, Appoquinimink School District
  • Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in Newark, Christina School District
  • Lord Baltimore Elementary School in Ocean View, Indian River School District

And, while we are talking about national recognition.

Outside Magazine named Wilmington as one of “The 15 Happiest Places to Live in the U.S.” Their criteria included ample outdoor accessibility, affordability, a safe environment, diversity, and freedom for residents to be who they are.
