By Stephanie and Dana Grayson- Publishers November 19, 2020

Meet one of Wilmington's most inspiring entrepreneurs....

Serena Kelley-Jefferson. Serena was born and raised right here in our hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. She has always had a passion for cooking and started in her kitchen a few years ago.. What happens when you stand against the odds of being black AND a woman in todays society? You break the cycles of generational hardship and create financial stability. Serena and her husband, Victor, have found a way to show us how you can control your destiny with persistence and hard work.

 Serena is truly inspiring...

Meet Serena Kelley-Jefferson

"My Husband and I started cooking out of our home in 2012. My mother had a stroke and she needed 24hr care and we both cook very well so we decided to give it a try... My Mother and Father are pretty good Chefs as well. The  best part of having a good product is that there really isn't too many obstacles in the way. Especially when you know your customers and what they like. It basically sells itself. As the years go by we get better and our business grows daily. What you put in your business is what you'll get out of it. Our biggest challenge was realizing as our business grows we lose some of the people that are closest to us. Being a Mother and Entrepreneur is great for us. We get to show our young black sons that there is more to life than what the narrative of a black man should be. Even though at this present time we're going through a nation wide pandemic, this has been the best time in sales for our business. All of the people that always miss our food due to us selling out while they're at work. Now most of our customers are working from home so they're able to come and often. We try to be as personable as possible.  We like to give a down home feel to our customers. They always ask "are you all from Delaware?". When you love what you do, I feel what you do will love you back. In September, we were recipients of the Discover #payitforward program and rewarded 25,000. We're currently working on expanding in 2021. We look forward to feeding you'll soon."  Serena Kelley-Jefferson.
